The 2020 election saw unprecedented changes in voting laws in every State under the guise of COVID-19 safety. These tactics were used to fundamentally change the way that we conduct elections in the United States.

Since 2020, many States have adopted these flawed practices permanently and even expanded the ability to unilaterally control the outcomes. Some States HAVE removed problematic laws, such as Florida, and our mission is to expand the rules we have in secure States to the rest of the United States before we lose trust in the Republic permanently.

What Type Of Laws Are We Backing?

The playbook for electioneering has been spelled out for us over the last two years. Instead of motivating people to vote, the goal has become mailing out as many ballots as possible, to voter rolls that are not cleaned, and publicly/privately funding the collection of those ballots. We fundamentally believe this leads to questionable elections and leads to a lack of confidence in the entire process.

Civil War Mail In Ballot Scandal

During the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln benefited from the first mass mail-in ballot election in America across the Union. While the Confederacy held their own elections the remaining States, split between Republicans and Democrats, disagreed vehemently on the safety of mailing voting. A widespread scheme to forge signatures both living and dead soldier and alive, led Lincoln to later side with a judge that sentenced two Democratic operatives to life in prison.

Civil Rights Act & Voter Supression

African Americans faced tremendous obstacles to voting, including poll taxes, literacy tests, and other bureaucratic restrictions to deny them the right to vote. They also risked harassment, intimidation, economic reprisals, and physical violence. The Civil Rights Act of 1965 eliminated many of these practices. The historical treatment of minority communities during elections ingrained a deep distrust of the American government to conduct fair and free elections.

No-Excuse Mail In Voting In CA

California became the first state to allow voters to apply for an absentee ballot without having to provide an excuse. Once California set this precident, neighboring states such as Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, and others expand their voting laws to include "Permanent Mail-In" voting. Elections in decades to follow began sending absentee ballots to all names on their voter rolls, setting a standard that became widely adopted in 2020 under pandemic policies.

The delayed counting taking place after election day and subsequent media sensationalism ushered in a new era of publicly declaring a winner before legal challenges can truly be completed.2000 was for Florida, what 2020 would later become for the rest of the United States. Not wanting to be seen as a mockery in future elections, Florida began to institute policies to strengthen their voting laws and election integrity - setting a standard for America’s future.

In 2016, Democrats across the US denied the election of Donald Trump as a legitimate President due to what they deemed was Russian interference in our election. The three year Robert Mueller-led investigation found no evidence of interference outside of meaningless Russian-funded Facebook ads. Despite this, these claims led to President Trump’s impeachment and have left many on the Left still convinced that Russia altered the outcome of the 2016 election.

Pandemic Election Law Overhaul

The COVID-19 pandemic set the backdrop for the most dramatic overhaul of American elections in history. Unprecedented expansion of mail-in ballots, dirty voter rolls, ballot harvesting, unsupervised drop-boxes, and private funding of Supervisor of Elections offices led to widespread distrust of the processes used to get Joe Biden elected. The culmination of this distrust infamously occurred on January 6th, 2021 as nearly 100,000 American protested the certification of the election.

After the controversy of the 2020 election, every state introduced legislation effected future elections - only some for the better. Problems with vote counting and mail-in balloting led to legitimate controversy in Arizona, Pennsylvania, as well as in other States. At Voter Trust, we don't use the word "fraud", but we also do not believe elections should become a game of who can fund, distribute, and collect the most mail-in ballots. We need to fix elections for the future.

4) Voter ID required to register, not required to vote

– Landscape issues: Decent Laws are in place, but ignored in past elections and counting was still a major issue. Democratic Governor Vetoed legislation in 2021. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court mandated a time extension for the 2020 general election ballot collection despite a statutory deadline.

– Landscape issues: Total Chaos. Mostly a lost cause because of current Secretary of State.

6) Passed bill to exempt election data requests from public records requests

– Landscape issues: Might be the biggest lost cause State in the Country. Governor recently tried to make election challenging illegal.

Virginia Issues we’re working on:

4) Revise Ballot Harvesting Laws
5) 45 Day Early Voting to 7 Days

– Landscape issues: Democrat Senate currently blocking legislation with elections this year. If the Senate flips Republican, we can implement sweeping reforms.

Rhode Island Issues to work on:
1) Removing Permanent Absentee Ballot List
2) Private Funding of Elections Offices
3) Revise Ballot Harvesting Laws
4) Removing Same Day Registration on Presidential Years and Automatic Registrations
5) 20 Days of Early Voting to 7 Days

3) New law allows for third-parties to register voters online on their behalf

– Landscape issues: Heavy Democratic control in all branches and unwillingness to change laws

Michigan Issues to work on:
1) Stop Mass mail in ballot elections
2) Private Funding of Elections Offices
3) Prevent Ballot Harvesting
4) Remove Same Day and Automatic Voter Registrations
5) Prop 2 in 2022 enshrined bad election laws into State Constitution after Amendment

– Landscape issues: Governor Whitmer vetoed 10 bills fixing all issues last year. Then Prop 2 passed and now all these terrible laws are in the Michigan Constitution, Dems took both houses, & the Governor will continue to veto everything. Michigan becomes a State that may be one of the biggest lost causes.

Minnesota Issues to work on:
1) No Voter ID Laws
2) Private Funding of Elections Offices
3) Remove Same Day Registration
4) Could expand poll watcher rights
5) 46 Days of Early Voting to 7 days

– Landscape issues: Voter ID law passed the Senate last year, shot down by the House.

Maine Issues to work on:
1) Remove Ranked Choice Voting
2) No Voter ID
3) Same Day Registration
4) Independents vote in closed primaries
5) Remove Dropboxes
6) Doesn’t count votes before voting day
7) Private Funding of Elections Offices

– Landscape issues: Democratic control. Ranked choice is a total mess up here with failed lawsuits for years. Mostly a lost cause state at this point.

Illinois Issues to work on:
1) No Voter ID
2) Remove Permanent Mass Mail Ins
3) Remove Same Day Registrations, Automatic Registrations
4) Disabled people can submit their ballot electronically leaving glaring cybersecurity issues. The only place in the country where this exists.
